The phrase provocatively recalls an old aphorism often attributed to Picasso: “ Good artists copy, great ones steal .”
This “quote within a quote” is a biting commentary on the true nature of creativity : banal copying is very different from taking an idea and turning it into something truly new.

With grotesque and provocative features, he ridicules the dictator and shows the horror of violence. Some images anticipate his masterpiece “Guernica”, a universal symbol against war. “Dreams and Lies of Franco” is proof that art can become a powerful voice of protest.
